Emergency Keys

Our Declaration of Co-Ownership states the following:  6.27 Any co‐proprietor or occupant must leave with the administrators the keys to any exclusive portions.  At the present time, approximately 68% of our residents have left their keys with the administration. In an effort to encourage the other 32% to do so:
  • We are about to purchase a new safe for the office just to store keys.
  • The locked safe will be stored in a locked cupboard in the office.
  • The key to each condo will be stored in a sealed envelope with a condo number identification.
  • Each resident will be asked to sign the sealed envelope so that there will be physical evidence when the envelope needs to be opened.
  • We will maintain a log of each time a key is accessed.
On Saturday night and Sunday morning, it was lucky that the administration had the key to a particular condo and that we always have a superintendent on duty. Had we not had the key, we would have had to break down the front door as it was a dire emergency that required Urgences Santé. There was no choice.  If you are one of those who did not leave your key with the administration, consider what might have happened had that been you. The cost of breaking down a door and replacing it can approach $1,000.
