Chapter 7 - Schedule

We cannot leave the building in its current state.

We expect work to begin the second or third week of May and the pool to be closed for as much as 5 to 6 weeks. Normally it should not require this much time, however there are 2 specific items we need to address that involve longer than normal delays.

Painting of the Pool

Sherwin-Williams guarantees that the pool paint should last 8 years. However, after just a few months, we have noticed that the paint is bubbling and flaking in certain spots. We also find paint flakes in the pool vacuum. There is a chemical reaction going on that needs to be addressed. The Sherwin-Williams representative has been onsite, taken samples, and shipped them to a lab for analysis. We are still waiting for the results of their tests. When we repaint the pool, there will be drying time both before and after the work is done that will effectively consume a calendar month

Installation of Gutters

The exact measurement of the gutters can only occur when the pool is closed and empty. Then we will have to wait for them to be manufactured and installed. Actual installation should only be 1 to 2 days but the lead time is expected to be at least two weeks.

Other Tasks

  • Repairs of the water damage will really only require a week or so.
    • The majority will be at no cost
  • Determine the cause of the leak where the pail has been necessary from time-to-time.

Pool Leak

A new issue with the pool has arisen this year. Some people have noticed that the pool water is often cooler than usual. Normally, we add water to compensate for evaporation which normally occurs with any pool. However lately, it has been necessary to add considerably more water than usual and so the water is cooler as a result. This can only be because the pool must be leaking somewhere. We have hired a company that specializes in such issues to investigate but we do not as yet have a course of action to correct the issue. The issue may be trivial or it may be major. At this point, we do not know.

Should it turn out to require a major repair, we may have to close the pool even longer however it is premature to say that it will be necessary. We will keep you informed.

Final Word (for Now)

This is the last chapter in our novella (for now). Given the importance of the pool to our quality of life and property values, we felt it necessary to communicate the details of what was a large comprehensive project. Hopefully, this answers your questions and perhaps corrects some misconceptions.

Thanks for taking the time to read what we wrote.
